Harry McKee Foundation - Deadline:  Scholarship postmark deadline is February 15th, 2017

Amount: $1,000

Eligibility Guidelines:  Open to first time college freshmen who are residents of the District of Ka`u. For more information on Eligibility Guidelines, and application go to http://mckeescholarshipfoundation.weebly.com/

Hawai`i Community Foundation – The scholarship period will end at 4pm on February 18, 2016 so you will need to move quickly.  Just complete one online application and be matched to multiple scholarships.  Go online now at http://www.hawaiicommunityfoundation.org/scholarships . You will need FAFSA info as well as a personal statement etc.

The Buick Scholarship Program - Deadline: February 29, 2016 – 5pm EST

Amount: Receive u to $100,000 over four years.

Who: A dedicated and inspired student. A leader in school and in the community, college bound and community minded. If you have the passion to succeed – especially in fields of study related to science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) – the Buick Achievers Scholarship Program is looking for you. This year, we will award 50 renewable scholarships of up to $25,000 per year.*

O Ka`u Kakou  -

Deadline:  Must be postmarked on or before March 1, 2016

One scholarship will be awarded to a qualifying graduating Big Island high school senior who will be attending a two or four year college. See the paper application form in Mrs. Walker’s office for more details.

Amount: $1,000 to one Big Island Senior

Eligibility Guidelines:  Must reside in Ka`u or if attending an out-of-state college must be claimed as a dependent whose parent or legal guardian’s principal residence is in Ka`u.

The Fukunaga Scholarship Foundation

Deadline: March 1st, 2016

Amount: $4,000 per year for a period of up to four years.

Eligibility Guidelines: For students who are pursuing higher education in business administration or other business related fields.  Scholarships are awarded to students based on financial need, academic standing, leadership and the desire and commitment to pursue a degree.

Hui Okinawa - Deadline:  Mail to the Hui Okinawa Scholarship Committee by March 31, 2016

One scholarship will be awarded to a qualifying graduating Big Island high school senior who will be attending a two or four year college. See the paper application form in Mrs. Walker’s office for more details.

Amount: $1,000 to one Big Island Senior

Eligibility Guidelines:  Involvement and contact with Okinawan culture.

University of Hawaii at Hilo’s Chancellor’s Scholarship - Deadline is March 1st, 2016

Amount: a four year tuition scholarship.

Eligibility Guidelines:  Accepted at UH Hilo, GPA of 3.5 or 1800 SAT, or composite score of 27 on the ACT. Demonstrated leadership and/or community service.

Foodland’s Shop for Higher Education - This year’s program runs from February 3, 2016 through March 15, 2016. For the past eight years Ka`u has qualified for one $2,000 scholarship to give out to at least one of our students.

Families should designate Kau`u high as their school of choice when shoping at Foodland, and Sac-n-Save so Ka`u High can earn points for this scholarship.  We are competing against other schools around the state.

At the end of the program, Foodland notifies the high schools who have received scholarships. The high school selects the student based on the criteria established by Foodland.

Big Island Retired Military Association

BIRMA - Mark Allen Traxler Memorial Scholarship for 2017.

MAIL COMPLETED APPLICATION BY MARCH 31, 2017

The Big Island Retired Military Association (BIRMA) is pleased to announce that we will be awarding a $2,000 scholarship.

Applicants must be a graduating seniors whose parent(s)/grandparent(s) or guardian(s) is/are active duty, reserve, National Guard or retired from U. S. military service.  This includes the U. S. Coast Guard.  Students who have completed two years in a JROTC or Civil Air Patrol program are also eligible regardless of their parents’ military service status.  

 

A minimum grade point average of 3.0 is required and the scholarship can only be applied to accredited colleges & universities in the United States.  Qualified students who express educational and career interests indicating intent to pursue a military or other government or public service career will receive priority consideration.   

 

A letter of recommendation, academic transcripts, proof of the parent’s military service or the student’s JROTC / CAP participation, and an essay are required as part of the application process.  One student will be selected to receive a $2,000 award, which will be paid directly to the college of his/her choice.

The Elks National Foundation Scholarship

The Elks National Foundation has opened it scholarship window for the 2015-2016 year for the students that are currently seniors in high school.  

There are several categories.  One for a graduating senior that is also a US citizen going to a four year college or university.  It is the Most Valuable Student Scholarship.  The second category is for students that are children or grandchildren of Elk members.  The third is for children of deceased or totally disabled Elk members.

Dorrance Scholarship

This year's flyers have just arrived. If you are thinking about attending UH Hilo and you have a 3.0 GPA or higher you may qualify for this fantastic opportunity. The final deadline is on February 17th, but don't waite till then to begin completing all requirements.

 

Ke Ali`i Pauahi Foundation   

Information for scholarships for the 2016-2017 academic year will be updated and available in January 2016.

Online application opens: February 3, 2016

Online application closes: March 18, 2016, 4:15 pm, HST.

In order to qualify for these scholarships you must first follow three steps. Completing the "Ancestry Verification" form is an important step. You should begin this process as soon as you are able so you will be prepared when application time arrives.  You can do this by going to the Kamahameha Schools website or clicking here!

(The Foundation’s policy is to give preference to applicants of Hawaiian ancestry to the extent permitted by law.)

 

Hawaii Island Landscape Association  Scholarship 

  • Award: $500.00 for the 2015-2016 academic year.

  • Due: All materials must be postmarked no later than September 30th, 2015.

Eligibility Requirements: Applicants for scholarship must be: 

  • 1.  Enrolled in their senior year at any high school on the island of Hawaii or currently enrolled or planning to enroll in any college or university, or any institution of higher learning in a program in horticulture, landscaping or agriculture (The Green Industry).  

  • 2. Able to demonstrate financial need.

7/31/15 -This year marks the first time Questbridge is able to launch their National College Match application EARLY for applicants.   • Young Scholars Program - For 7th graders!!! The Jack Kent Cooke Foundation Young Scholars Program offers the most personalized, generous scholarship and educational support to exceptionally promising students from families across the nation who have financial need. Young Scholars receive comprehensive educational advising and financial support from the 8th grade through high school to pursue their unique academic and talent goals. The application period is open from January to April. Up to 65 Young Scholars are selected for this program each year. Final notification is in the early fall.

  • University of Hawaii System Common Scholarship Application - Once you are accepted and have a user ID you may use this site. The 2015-16 scholarship application is now OPEN.  Apply by March 2, 2015

  • Hawaii Community Foundation Scholarships - For Scholarship Seekers!  Scholarship applications will be available online in early December. Hawai'i Community Foundation's scholarship program consists of over 150 different scholarship funds established by generous individuals, families, businesses or organizations to assist Hawai'i's residents in obtaining a college education. Students apply to the program and, if eligible, can be awarded from one or more of these funds. For questions, call our Scholarships staff - free from neighbor islands at 1-888-731-3863.

  • Dorrance Scholarship - The Dorrance Scholarship for first-generation students is a need-based award providing financial and academic support for Hawaii (Big Island only) high school graduates pursuing an undergraduate degree at the University of Hawaii at Hilo. The award is renewable for a total of eight semesters (four years) of funding.   • Ka`u Chamber of Commerce  The Ken Wicks Ka'u Chamber of Commerce Scholarship has expanded to include not only high school juniors and seniors, but also adults seeking to re-enter the educational system.

  • Atsuhiko Tateuchi Memorial Scholarship - is offered through The Seattle Foundation's scholarship program. For Asian students from the Pacific Rim States (Alaska, California, Hawaii, Oregon and Washington), this is a $5,000 scholarship renewable for up to four years. Students can read the full requirements once they create a free account on the WashBoard web site.
